Ruger Security - 9

A Shooting Illustrated Review via Insty
A chicken in every pot, a car in every garage, a Ruger Security-9 in every holster?

Yeah, we know; we just mixed FDR with Herbert Hoover. But the affordable functionality of the new Ruger Security-9 may just allow it to perform like a universal personal protection safety net—a simple, easily operated semi-automatic pistol of adequate chambering that just about anyone can afford. It works as a concealed-carry piece, a woods gun or a home-defense pistol and probably fits 90 percent of adult hands, yet offers 15+1 rounds of firepower.

Perhaps it would be more proper to reference Henry Ford since he came pretty close to making sure the car in most garages was a Model T. He did that by making it uncomplicated, practical and low-cost. Then again, the millennials reading this probably think Henry Ford is that old guy who played Han Solo, so enough with the historical allusions.

The point is that Ruger has unveiled something in the Ruger Security-9 that many new guns aspire to be—an Everyman (and woman) gun. In this age of individuality and specialization, the idea of an all-purpose handgun that in terms of basic function and firepower will put the owner on par with any adversary he/she is likely to encounter has great appeal.

The Ruger Security-9’s MSRP of $379 trumps virtually any potential shortcoming short of malfunctioning. That price tag makes the Security-9 tough to argue against, but, you know what? The Security-9 doesn’t really need to play the price card. In most respects, its existence is validated by its competence alone.

Boston Herald to move offices out of Boston
BOSTON - The Boston Herald is leaving Boston.

Publisher Kevin Corrado told employees in a memo on Tuesday that the newspaper will be moving its offices to Braintree later this year. Braintree is about 13 miles south of Boston.

Boston Herald declares bankruptcy, agrees to be sold to GateHouse Media The Herald's offices have been located in Boston's Seaport District since the newspaper left its longtime home in the South End in 2012.

The newspaper filed for bankruptcy in December 2017 and was later bought by Denver-based Digital First Media. Digital First owns hundreds of publications, including the Lowell Sun and Sentinel & Enterprise of Fitchburg in Massachusetts.

Corrado says in the memo that the move will happen between late November and early December.

Corrado didn't immediately respond to an email on Tuesday.

PawSox Move to Worcester

Announced Friday: Boston Red Sox Triple A Affiliate PawSox plan move to Worcester, Mass
By Nik DeCosta-Klipa August 20, 2018

So long, Rhode Island. The Pawtucket Red Sox are officially headed to Worcester.

Following more than 12 months of rumored interest, the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate officially announced plans Friday to relocate to New England’s second biggest city beginning in 2021. The move includes a 10,000-seat new stadium in the city’s burgeoning Canal District and a new name — The Worcester Red Sox.

Or, possibly, the WooSox, for short.

“Larry, you’re a tough fish to catch, but we got you — and we’re really happy about that,” Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito told PawSox chairman Larry Lucchino at the official announcement Friday in Worcester.

College Kids Are Nuts, Outgoing UConn President Says
Rampant mental illness on college campuses is the biggest problem colleges face, the outgoing president of the University of Connecticut said.

Susan Herbst, who plans to step down as president of UConn in July 2019 to return to teaching and writing, talked in an interview with The Hartford Courant about problems with various amenities on campus, but said mental illness dwarfs them.

“If you were to ask me what’s the one thing that keeps you up at night, it’s not athletics, it’s not the health center. It’s the mental health of our students,” Herbst said.

“I would say that mental health is far and away the biggest student behavioral problem .. that we have at any college or university in the country and any president who is honest will tell you the same thing. We have many transports by our police to hospitals, to pysch units during the year.

Tommy Robinson freed on bail as court orders retrial

via AoSHQ

Appeal court quashes finding of contempt against English Defence League founder
Tommy Robinson, the founder of the English Defence League, has been freed from prison after the court of appeal ordered that he should be retried on a contempt of court charge.

He had been held at Onley jail near Rugby after receiving a 13-month sentence for breaching reporting restrictions at Leeds and Canterbury crown courts.

At the court of appeal on Wednesday, the lord chief justice, Lord Burnett of Maldon, upheld the Canterbury ruling but said the ruling in Leeds was “flawed” and there should be a retrial.
