BOSTON’S GUN BUYBACK PROGRAM HAS TAKEN IN EXACTLY ONE GUN YEAR-TO-DATE

On Wednesday Boston Mayor Marty Walsh (D) relaunched his city’s gun buyback program after it had taken in only one gun for the entire year as of August 14.

The relaunch comes as gun crime soars in Boston just as is other Democrat-led cities like Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, and St. Louis.

According to the Boston Herald, the gun buyback program offers gift cards “valued from $100 to $200″ for each gun turned in. Over “400” guns were turned in 2014 but just one had been handed over by August 14 of this year. Still, Boston Police spokesman James Kenneally said they are sticking with the program as long as there is funding to pay for it. He suggested that the guns taken in via the buyback program are the ones that really need to be taken off the streets. “Those are the tough guns,” he said.

The upcoming National Defense Authorization Act that passed committee includes a plan to transfer the U.S. Army’s remaining stock of .45 ACP 1911A1 pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Added as an amendment by Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Alabama, while the NDAA was in debate in the House Armed Service Committee, it could see potentially the largest remaining stock of military surplus World War II-era handguns in government hands sold to the public.

1776 - King George III of England Learns of American Independence

On this day in 1776, news reaches London that the Americans had drafted the Declaration of Independence.

Until the Declaration of Independence formally transformed the 13 British colonies into states, both Americans and the British saw the conflict centered in Massachusetts as a local uprising within the British empire. To King George III, it was a colonial rebellion, and to the Americans, it was a struggle for their rights as British citizens. However, when Parliament continued to oppose any reform and remained unwilling to negotiate with the American rebels and instead hired Hessians, German mercenaries, to help the British army crush the rebellion, the Continental Congress began to pass measures abolishing British authority in the colonies.

Coincidentally, it is also the same day as my Twin Sister's Birthday. I think I'll call her later.

New Hampshire Defunds Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood's five clinics in New Hampshire will lose about one-third of their funding, after the state's Executive Council voted to halt their state dollars on Wednesday.

The council, comprised of three Republicans and two Democrats, rejected about $650,000 in state funding to the women's health and abortion provider, according to the Associated Press. Council members said the group should instead be investigated, now that it is known that some Planned Parenthood clinics participate in aborted fetal tissue donations.

Speaker of the Assembly Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego) sponsored the bill and hailed it as the next step in equal rights for all Americans. In the State Senate, President Pro Tem Kevin De León cheered the efforts of Speaker Atkins and stated he and his caucus were fully on board.
