L’shana Tova – Happy New Year

via My Facebook Friend Patti
Bumped:

From our family to yours, we’re wishing you L’shana Tova – Happy New Year. May God Write And Seal You In The Book Of Life For A Good Year

No I'm not one of GODs own chosen people. I am however, a Scot. Scots know how to do new year too. It's Hogmanay. It's about visiting neighbors, kissing the pretty girls of the house and sharing a dram of fine single malt with the lads.

I've known that Rosh Hashanah is a New Year Celebration as YID says "a ten day period book-ended by the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur". He gives the details on the holiday.

So ... I don't care who you are. Happy New Year!

A Sunday Joke

The Pope and Obama were on the same stage in Yankee Stadium in front of a huge crowd.
The Pope leaned toward Mr. Obama and said, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, but will go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and rejoice!"
Obama replied, "I seriously doubt thatWith one little wave of your hand....Show me!"
... ... So the Pope backhanded him and knocked him off the stage!

AND THE CROWD ROARED & CHEERED WILDLY!

Kind of brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it?

On Taxing the Regular Joe

UPDATE: Welcome Facebook Readers!
This post is apparently blazing around the intarwebs this afternoon.

Just Saying!
via The Ferel Irishmam
Joe VS. Jose......
You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families have two parents, two children, and live inCalifornia .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention....

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.0 0 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $24,031.00.

Jose Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics and emergency hospitals at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps, WIC and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has 9,631 ..00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500.00 per month Federal Rent Subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for car insurance. Some of that is uninsured motorist insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc..

Jose Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month..

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same elementary school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches, while Jose Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program.Joe Legal's children go home.

Now, when they reach college age, Joe Legal's kids may not get into a State School and may not qualify for scholarships, grants or other tuition help, even though Joe has been paying for State Schools through his taxes, while Jose Illegal's kids "go to the head of the class" because they are a minority.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and Jose did not pay.

Do you get it, now?

If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens... You are part of the problem!

We need to keep this going--we need to make changes ASAP!

It's way PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans!

The President's Vacation

During his vacation at Martha's Vineyard - President Obama had been slicing off the tee on every hole.

He asks his Scottish caddy if he has noticed any obvious reasons for his poor tee shots, to which the caddy replies:

"Aye, You've a wee piece of shyte on ta end of yer drrivahr."

Obama picks up his driver and cleans the club face, at which point the caddy says: "Noo, it's on the oothar end."

My Best Friend's Wedding

There's a picture there on the lower right of the side bar depicting Dave in PB with the lovely Miss J as Tea Party Hobbits. I had not heard from her in more than 30 years until we ran into each other on FB about a year ago . In the time since highschool she has raised a beautiful family of 4 children on her own. The youngest is now serving in Afganistan.

A true Patriot, the perfect mix of Irish and Catholic this amazing woman is like a can of gasoline looking for a book of matches and just as sweet as she can be. I had a chance to spend some time with Miss J and her family on a recent visit back east. I refer to her at times as the girl that never got married ... until today that is. She explained over lunch back in May and offered me an invitation.

I should be there now, I know. With work and projects stacking up like cord wood before year end, I just couldn't get away. Miss J has been a nervous wreck for weeks worried about everything that could go wrong at such events. Well todays the day.

Don't sweat the small stuff sweetheart. Enjoy the day. Have a wonderful time and dance like no one is looking. You deserve it.

A little prayer

May God be with you and bless you,
May you see your children's children,
May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

Friday Night Funnies

via Bob on Facebook

I have nothing at all to add to this.

Post em if ya got em!

From Email This AM

Dave in PB,

My name is Chris Lyman and I am a die-hard political weenie. My grandmother was Undersecretary of the Air Force under the Carter administration (not bad for a woman in the 1970s!) and much of my formidable youth was spent arguing around a dinner table: left, right, and center. I watch two hours of political news each day and, well, it's clear: I have politics on the brain. :)

This is why I write to you today. One year ago, I co-founded a political/tech startup. The company is called SendLove.to and our goal is: real-time, social polling to improve the political discourse. See, the web has done a great job of giving the "little guy" a voice. But, it has done a lousy job of distilling those voices into actionable data for our politicians. They still rely on phone surveys!

So, my company has made this really cool, free plugin for publishers. It scans your articles for politicians and allows your readers to rate & discuss the people you write about. It also introduces them to older articles about the same people to drive up your engagement numbers. So, far so good! We are on about 350 sites including www.themoderatevoice.com. They have gone on record reporting saying that they see a 42% increase to time spent per article and a 71% increase to page views. The 2nd stat seems inflated, but I do not doubt the 1st one -- readers really like becoming engaged in the political process.

The plugin is gorgeous and I have included some screenies below. I really think it's a great fit for The Right Way. What do you think?

PS I forgot to thank you for what you do. I realize these are tough, partisan times. However, its people like you -- brave enough to talk about the issues we face -- that give me hope for our system's future. So, thank you. :)

Not sure what to think of this at the moment. I had thought that one of my passerbys might have become offended and reported me over at Atttaaaccckkk Wwwaaatttccchhh. However this guy actually has a website. It's an attempt I think to socialize, as in Social Media, the blogosphere. Seems wierd though that the several folks reporting this come directly out of the blogroll

The Southwest Power Outage

Didja hear about the burning and looting going on in San Diego during the power outage yesterday. Yeah me neither. I heard some union hack spilled coffee or whatever on a flux capacitor in Gila Bend AZ causing rolling blackouts across 3 states and much of Baja California. Back to the burning and looting though ... It was horrendous. All those candles and folks recklessly looting their refrigerators for food before power and proper order could be restored overnight. Except for the commute home from work it was a pretty pleasant evening.

Encountering an intersection with no lights at all you assume a blinking red and each takes a turn through the four way in an orderly fashion. Sokay .... In a neighborhood just north of University City the intersction is Genessee and La Jolla Village Drive. They Really could have used a cop but there we're none anywhere around. Kinda wierd because they should have been heading in and out of the Police Station on a shift change at that time of day. The object is to try get through the 4 way safely. South Bounders go and allow for the left turns East bounders go and allow for left turns North bounders go and allow for left turns and finally West bounders go and allow for left turns. What really happens though is what could only be described as a game of chicken and there are some pretty expensive rides in this neighborhood. North and South bounders dash into the intersection as a pack of 6 or eight cars and left turners try to squeeze through before the East and West bounders pull the same manuver. Pedestrians cross this madness at their own risk and This was going on all over the city. Chaos ensues!

Accidents everywhere. The folks just hop out of the car and do their insurance seminar in the middle of the street. To be fair, I did see one cop car, unmarked, trying to turn left on Lebron. That would put you onto the way east end of the UCSD Medical School. He had to use his lights to get through the 4 way stop. I'm pretty sure they were told to go hide somewhere for a while. The Twenty minute bus ride down to Old Town took 2 Hours. There were nearly 100 passengers waiting there for a north bound 44. Way more than could fit on a single city bus anyway. Screw it. I walked the 2 miles or so to Fort Hobson.
